Often they are combined with other muscle-building and sometimes weight-loss medicines, in a practice known as’stacking’.
However, they are also dangerous when used incorrectly, with many serious side effects – including infertility in men and breast growth in girls. And the effects are not always reversible. The US Food and Drug Administration warns that drugs that mimic testosterone can cause a host of problems, including high blood pressure and cholesterol, heart and liver damage, as well as hair loss, shrinkage of the testes, breast development in boys and impotence.
