Types of Underfloor Heating Pipe

Underfloor heating systems work in a very similar way to standard central heating systems, pumping warm water through underfloor pipes and radiating the heat up into the floorboards. It is important to know what each of the underfloor heating components do, and how they interact with each other to ensure the system functions properly.

There are many different types of UFH pipe on the market and it is important to choose one that is specifically designed for this type of system. This will help you achieve a quality finish and avoid any problems when installing your system.

We have a specialist pipe called Layflat that is ideal for all UFH projects and offers great value for money. It is manufactured and Kitemarked to British Standard BS7291: Parts 1, 2 & 3: Class S, is easy to work with and is highly effective at transmitting heat. It is also made with a unique oxygen barrier that stops oxygen molecules from entering the system, maximising its lifespan.

Layflat is available in two different sizes – 16 x 2mm and 12 x 2mm. Both are supplied in coils of between 75m and 500m, perfect for larger projects. This makes them versatile and able to be used with either overlay boards or timber suspended systems. For screed systems, we recommend using a bifilar pattern as this is the most efficient way to lay the pipe. This allows the warmer pipe (flow pipe) to be placed under the lowest parts of the floor, where the temperature will be lower, and the colder pipe (return pipe) to be under the highest areas, where the temperature will be higher.
